Do You Construct Decorative Timber Members For Rafters Made Out Of Southern Pine Or Doug Fir ?
Asked by Mike on May 03, 2017
I am estimating a project to repair an 1800 train station. Do you construct decorative timber members for rafters and structural brackets made out of southern pine or doug fir ?

Hi Mike,
I prefer Douglas fir for a project like yours because it is more stable and less prone to twisting. But southern yellow pine would also work if that is what was original to the train station.

Douglas Fir
Good luck with your project!
