Top Ten Coolest Timber Frames by VTW (according to Mike)–#10

By Mike McLaine on October 31, 2014

As a seasoned member of the Vermont Timber Works crew, I have seen a lot of timbers come in and out of the shop.  That gives me the gravitas needed to roll out my “Top Ten” list of the coolest timber frames, in my humble opinion of course. Check out the rest of The Top 10 Coolest Timber Frames (According To Me) here!

Without further ado, let me begin with number 10:  The McCarthy Pergola.

This pergola was built for a private residence in Kerhonkson, NY.  I love the classical motif with the pediments and blocks–it reminds me of a Greek temple.

The installation of the timber frame was a lot of fun (this was back when I was part of the installation crew).

The timbers were a rough sawn hemlock, and have weathered very nicely next to the clients’ pool.

All lit up at night, it is a beautiful feature for the backyard:

I am going to build a 40′ wide by 80′ long Barn chapel/ multi use bldg. in Magnolia N.J. it will be next to a 275 year old Historical house, and wanted it to look old. Most of the timber frames I have been seeing look new. any suggestions? Steve
